New Delhi : Sudan continues to descend into a humanitarian nightmare as the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched deadly attacks on civilians already suffering from extreme hunger. According to the General Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugees, the assaults began on Thursday and continued through Saturday. The attacks, described as brutal and indiscriminate, were carried out in various parts of the Darfur region, where people have been battling severe food shortages and insecurity. Residential areas, markets, and even health centers were not spared, leading to fears that more than 100 people may have been killed, with many more injured. A significant portion of the victims are reportedly women and children.

The RSF’s actions have drawn strong condemnation from human rights groups and international observers, who are warning that Sudan is slipping deeper into a crisis of both conflict and starvation. The violence has exacerbated the suffering of thousands of internally displaced people and refugees, many of whom have been struggling to survive in makeshift shelters with little access to food, clean water, or medical care. These attacks have further destabilized regions already crippled by conflict and have disrupted essential services that communities rely on for survival.

Eyewitnesses and local aid workers report scenes of devastation, with burnt-out homes, looted markets, and overwhelmed health clinics. The situation is especially dire for children, who are facing malnutrition and lack of medical support in the wake of the violence. Aid organizations are calling for immediate international intervention and humanitarian assistance to prevent further loss of life.

Despite ongoing calls for peace and restraint, the Sudanese government has struggled to contain the violence or hold RSF accountable. The country has been engulfed in turmoil since the breakdown of civilian-military power-sharing agreements, with the RSF emerging as one of the most powerful and violent actors on the ground. As the crisis unfolds, the international community is being urged to step in—not only with emergency aid but also with diplomatic pressure to halt the violence and protect vulnerable populations.

The world is once again watching Sudan with concern, as the toll of hunger, displacement, and targeted violence continues to rise, threatening to spiral into a larger humanitarian catastrophe if swift action is not taken.
