Indians Coast Guards rescue SL fishermen missing for 63 days
Colombo: A group of four Sri Lankan fishermen who set sail on September 25 and got lost in the sea for 63 long days have been rescued by the Indian Coast Guard, it was reported on Wednesday.
The men were on board FV Neil Mary were sailing towards their catch when they got lost in the sea, the Daily Mirror newspaper reported.
The group reached out to various vessels and boats and eventually reached close to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands where the Indian Coast Guard extended all assistance to them and brought them to the Indian shores, the daily said.
“They are now being taken care of by the Indian authorities and Sri Lankan authorities have been contacted in order to expedite their repatriation back to Sri Lanka,” informed sources were quoted as saying.
“The families of the Sri Lankan fishermen rejoiced over the news and are eagerly waiting for the family reunion. Indian naval assets have been of great value to the people of Sri Lanka including the fishermen on multiple occasions,” the sources said. (UNI)
