Himachal Sports: Paragliding trials held at Sujanpurtira
Hamirpur (HP), Jun 24 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district is also coming on the map of Paragliding sports.
Presently, Paragliding is famous in the hills of Bir-Billing in the Kangra district where World-level functions/competitions are held. Besides, Rohtang Pass near Manali (3978 meters above sea level), Kothi below Rohtang Pass (2500 meters above sea level), Bijli Mahadev near Kullu (2460 meters above sea level) and Bandla Ridge in Bilaspur (2600 meters above sea level) are also known for the Paragliding sports.
As per the instructions of the area MP and Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Thakur, a team of the Paragliders held a successful trial run from the Tira Forts and ended at the Chaugan (huge ground) of Sujanpur Tira Kaswa of the district.
One of the Paragliders said that it was nice to have a glimpse of various parts of the Sujanpurtira area of the Hamirpur district and he was optimistic that this area would also become popular in the field of Paragliding in the state.
Vinod Thakur, media in charge of the Sujanpur BJP unit, said the trial run was successful and soon people of the town would see gliders flying in the sky.
He said Anurag Thakur had also assured them to encourage water sports activities in the Beas. He said the river provided scope for blue water rafting, sailing, canoeing and boating.
It’s worth mentioning here that Sujanpur was a historical town and known for its miniature paintings that still attract the people across the World.
The town was the sub-capital of the great Katoch rulers of the Kangra hills and the huge Chaugan (big ground) is known all over, this ground measuring about 1067 kanals of land was the parade ground of the Katoch army.
Deputy Commissioner Debasweta Banik was happy with the trials of the Paragliding in the district and said that this sport would become another attraction for the tourists across the World, as there were many places in the district which were famous for their visiting including the ancient temples located at Nadaun, Deotsidh, Gasota Mahadev and Nadaun.
