Mumbai: The much-anticipated action drama ‘Sikandar’ has seemingly failed to live up to its hype, as the film crashed at the box office on Monday, ending hopes of a strong theatrical run. After a moderately decent weekend collection, the film witnessed a sharp drop in footfall and revenue, leaving distributors and producers disappointed.

Directed by a prominent filmmaker and starring a major action star, ‘Sikandar’ was expected to be a blockbuster. However, the film received mixed to negative reviews from both critics and the audience. While the action sequences and cinematography were praised, the weak storyline, lack of emotional depth, and overused tropes turned out to be its downfall.

According to trade reports, ‘Sikandar’ collected only around ₹2.3 crore on Monday — a drastic fall from its opening day numbers. The early buzz and star power failed to sustain interest beyond the weekend. Advance bookings for the weekdays are also reportedly low, which signals a worrying trend for the film’s future.

Industry experts believe that the film’s failure can be attributed to poor word of mouth, stiff competition from other recent releases, and audience fatigue towards generic action films.

“The audience today demands substance, even in masala entertainers. Sikandar had style, but lacked soul,” said a leading trade analyst.

Fans on social media expressed their disappointment, with many calling the film a “missed opportunity” for an actor who usually guarantees box office success. Meanwhile, rival films in both regional and Hindi cinema are expected to capitalize on the poor run of ‘Sikandar’ and take over the screens in the coming week.

While the producers are yet to comment officially, sources suggest that they may shift focus to OTT release windows and satellite rights recovery to minimize losses.

With most shows running at below 20% occupancy, it seems the curtain may soon fall on ‘Sikandar’ unless a miracle turnaround happens during the coming weekend.
