Chandigarh: The Haryana Government is taking significant steps towards empowering women and young girls in the state by launching a new initiative aimed at making them self-reliant. Under this scheme, the government will provide e-rickshaws to 1000 women, along with training to operate them. The total expenditure for this initiative is approximately 692 lakh rupees, and it will be implemented across all districts of the state.

The scheme, which will be executed through the Haryana Women Development Corporation, is exclusive to women residents of the state who possess a valid domicile certificate. Among the beneficiaries, 400 will come from BPL (Below Poverty Line) families, 100 will be widows, and the remaining 500 will be from other categories of women. The eligible age group for this initiative is between 18 to 45 years. The government has set an income limit of 1.80 lakh rupees for BPL families and 3 lakh rupees for other women. There is no income limit for widowed women.

For women from BPL families and widows, the government will provide a 50% subsidy on the purchase of the e-rickshaw, while other women will receive a 30% subsidy. Additionally, a 10-day training program will be provided to the beneficiaries on how to operate the e-rickshaws. The selection process for beneficiaries will be based on a first-come-first-served basis.
