Hand Grenade Blast at Majitha Police Station in Amritsar

Window Panes Shattered in Explosion, Investigation Underway

Amritsar: A powerful explosion occurred at Majitha Police Station on Wednesday night, causing severe damage to the building’s windows. Initially, the police had speculated that the blast was caused by a police officer inflating a tire. However, it was later discovered that an unknown individual had thrown a hand grenade inside the station.

The incident took place around 11 p.m. at Majitha Police Station, which is located in the district’s rural area. The grenade was thrown into an open area within the station, resulting in a massive explosion. In response, the police quickly sealed the station’s gates to prevent further harm.

The blast prompted a large crowd to gather around the area as the explosion’s sound echoed throughout the vicinity. Police officials, including SP Charanjit Singh and DIG Satinder Singh, arrived at the scene promptly and initiated an investigation.

This explosion is the second such incident in just six days. On November 29, a similar hand grenade explosion occurred at the now-defunct Gurbaksh Nagar Police Post in the urban district of Amritsar. Furthermore, on the night of November 23-24, an attempted bombing using an improvised device outside Ajnala Police Station was uncovered. In the past 15 days, three similar incidents have taken place, but the authorities have not been able to identify or apprehend the perpetrators yet.

In another alarming development, earlier on Wednesday morning, a shooting attempt was made on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Badal by a suspected Khalistani terrorist, Narayan Chauda, near the Golden Temple. The attack was foiled due to the swift response of the security personnel, and the attacker was arrested. Despite the heightened security measures following the attack on Badal, the grenade blast at Majitha Police Station occurred later that night.
