Guv Kataria confers degrees to 128 students at FDDI Convocation
The Governor urged the students to respect their parents and teachers

The second convocation was held at the Banur campus of FDDI, an institute of national importance established by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Sh Gulab Chand Kataria attended the convocation as the chief guest. The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the singing of the national anthem by the chief guest, the Managing Secretary of the Institute, Colonel Pankaj Sinha, and the Executive Director, Ms. Pragya Singh.
On this occasion, the Governor congratulated all the students and wished them a bright future. The Governor said that by combining education with skills, human resources are being created as per the requirements of the country. This will reduce unemployment and create opportunities for self-employment. He also highlighted that FDDI is one of the 12 institutes established across the country to address these objectives.
Referring to the goal of developed India, the Governor said that this goal can be achieved only when every citizen of the country makes efforts. He said that it depends on the hard work and diligence of every citizen. He appealed to the students to keep making efforts and bring glory to the institute. He said that getting the institute recognized at the global level will be a true honor for its teachers. The Governor urged the students to respect their parents. He said that parents give a good life to the child by suffering themselves; everyone should be indebted to their parents and remember their hard work.
On this occasion, the Secretary of the Institute, Colonel Pankaj Sinha appreciated the academic programs at the Banur campus and motivated the students and staff for consistent good performance. He highlighted the contribution of the footwear industry to the country’s economy. He said that this industry has contributed to employment and exports. Referring to Make in India, he said that the country’s leadership has supported such initiatives which are strengthening the economy.
Ms. Pragya Singh, Executive Director of the Institute, spoke about FDDI’s employment-oriented vocational courses in fields such as retail and fashion merchandise, footwear design, fashion design, and leather and lifestyle product design at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She noted that FDDI graduates are employed by leading multinational and national companies with competitive packages.
On this occasion, she wishes the students success in the industry and thanked the guests. 128 students of 2023 and 2024 batch were awarded degrees from all the departments of the institute – Retail and Fashion Merchandise, Footwear Design, Fashion Design and Leather and Lifestyle Product Design. In the same sequence, the students who performed well were awarded gold and silver medals. Akanksha Gupta and Rishita Ladiwal of the 2023 batch and Divpriya and Satuti Pant of the 2024 batch were awarded gold medals in the postgraduate and undergraduate categories respectively.
Similarly, Ekjot Kaur of the 2023 batch of the Department of Footwear Technology, Srishti Mittal of the Leather and Lifestyle Product Design Department and Ojal Garg of the 2024 batch of the Department of Footwear Technology were awarded silver medals.
