Guv. Banwarilal Purohit, CM greet Tokyo Paralympics medal winners

Chennai, Aug 30 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister M K Stalin today greeted various medal winners in Paralympics in Tokyo.
In his message, the Governor said “My Heartiest Congratulations to Avani Lekhara, Sumit Antil, Yogesh Kathuniya, Devendra Jhajharia, Nishad Kumar,
Bhavinaben Patel and Sundar Singh Gurjar for winning medals at various
events at Tokyo Paralympics 2021.”
“We are really proud of them”, he said, according to a Raj Bhavan communique.
Shooter Avani Lekhara scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to
win a gold medal at the Paralympics, while Sumit Antil won a gold medal in
men’s Javelin.
Discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver medal in the men’s and Javelin
throw veteran Devendra Jhajharia clinched a stupendous third Paralympic silver
medal. Sundar Singh Gurjar won bronze medal in the men’s javelin throw. Nishad Kumar won
silver medal in high jump and Bhavinaben Patel won silver medal in table tennis.
They brought pride to India through their remarkable achievement. “I am sure
that their achievements will inspire and motivate the sports persons of India to
perform best at various International competitions including the Paralympics
and get many more medals and laurels for our great Nation, the Governor said.
“I congratulate all the medal winners, their parents and their coaches and wish
all the best for their future achievements”, Mr Purohit said.

Mr Stalin in a series of tweets also hailed the medal winners and termed it as a
Golden Day for India.
“Golden day for India at #Tokyo2020 #Paralympics. I congratulate Sumit Antil
for clinching #Gold in #Javelin F64 with three record throws in the same event.
It’s truly exceptional.”, he said.
In another tweet, he said “Congratulations to AvaniLekhara for her historic
#Gold medal in #ParaShooting. I’m elated by your phenomenal achievement. I
also congratulate YogeshKathuniya for his #Silver in Discus Throw and
@DevJhajharia & @SundarSGurjar for winning #Silver and #Bronze medal in
Javelin F46.”
