New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said generations to come will remain grateful to Kalyan Singh for his contributions towards India’s cultural regeneration, as he condoled the death of the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister.
Home Minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla along with others condoled the death of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh.
“I am saddened beyond words. Kalyan Singh Ji…statesman, veteran administrator, grassroots level leader and great human. He leaves behind an indelible contribution towards the development of Uttar Pradesh,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet adding that he talked to Kalyan Singh’s son.
“Generations to come will remain forever grateful to Kalyan Singh Ji for his contributions towards India’s cultural regeneration. He was firmly rooted in Indian values and took pride in our centuries old traditions,” he said, referring to the leader.
“Kalyan Singh Ji gave voice to crores of people belonging to the marginalized sections of society. He made numerous efforts towards the empowerment of farmers, youngsters and women,” the Prime Minister said.
Home Minister Amit Shah said Kalyan Singh set an example of good governance in Uttar Pradesh, and provided an administration free of crime and fear, which worked for the people of the state.
“It is rare to find a great personality like Kalyan Singh ji, a strong nationalist who lives in the hearts of the people,” Amit Shah said.
He called him a role model for governments to come.
“This country and the generations to come will always be indebted for their immense contribution. May God give him a place at his feet,” he said.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also condoled the BJP leader’s death, and said he was popular in public due to his simplicity.
“As the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, he gave a new impetus to the development of the State. Both the states of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh also benefited from his long experience during his stint as Governor of these States. His death is the end of an era in politics,” he said.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari meanwhile remembered Kalyan Singh’s role in strengthening the Jan Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh.
“We learnt from Kalyan Singh ji that ideology is more important than power,” Gadkari said, also calling the leader a dedicated Ram devotee, and a grassroot level leader Kalyan Singh was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh when the Babri mosque was demolished. He also served as the governor of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh later.
