G Sathiyan wins Int’l Open TT title in Czech Republic

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) India’s top table tennis player Sathiyan Gnanasekaran beat Ukraine’s Yevhen Pryschchepa in the final to clinch the men’s singles title at the ITTF Czech International Open at Olomouc in Czech Republic on Wednesday night.

Gnanasekaran, the top seed in the tournament, won his final match against the fourth-seeded Ukrainian 4-0 (11-9, 11-6, 11-6, 14-12).

The Indian stormed into the final after his semifinal rival Truls Moregard of Sweden conceded in the third game due to back pain 11-4, 11-8, 8-2.

Notably, the Chennai-born paddler did not concede a single set to the rivals during the entire tournament.

It was Sathiyan Gnanasekaran’s third ITTF Challenger title after the Belgium Open in 2016 and the Spanish Open in 2017.

Last week, he along with Manika Batra, also won the mixed doubles title at WTT Contender Budapest.
