Final Survey for Gurugram Metro Extension Begins to Finalize Route and Stations
Ground survey kicks off as officials inspect proposed stations at key locations; project set to transform Gurugram’s transit landscape….
Gurugram: The final ground survey for the long-awaited Gurugram Metro extension project began on Thursday, with officials inspecting key proposed stations at Millennium City Centre Interchange, Sector 45, and Cyber Park in Sector 46.
A senior official from the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) explained that teams from the water supply, sewage, and mobility divisions, along with the project contractor from Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd (GMRL), were involved in identifying utilities, green belts, and structures along the proposed Metro route.
This survey is crucial in determining the final alignment of the route and the locations for the 27 planned elevated Metro stations. The collected data will be handed over to a private consultant who will carry out land surveys and finalize the design.
The Gurugram Metro extension project aims to span 28.5 kilometers, connecting Huda City Centre to Cyber City, passing through major hubs like Subash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector 5, and Sector 22. With 27 elevated stations, including an interchange station at Palam Vihar, the project is expected to cost ₹5,450 crore. Additionally, a spur will connect the Metro to the Dwarka Expressway, enhancing accessibility.
The detailed survey will cover a wide range of elements along the route, such as trees, buildings, roads, access points, and utilities like water, sewage, and power lines. By identifying these critical features, the survey ensures that the project moves forward with a clear understanding of its environmental and structural impact.
“This topographical survey will play a key role in fixing the final alignment and finalizing the location of the elevated stations,” said the GMDA official. “The survey will also help us prepare for the challenges once construction begins. This project is not just about providing a Metro rail system, but it will also contribute to the broader urban transformation of Gurugram,” he added.
Currently, Gurugram has limited Metro connectivity, with the Yellow Line extending from the Delhi border to Sector 29 and the Rapid Metro covering areas along Golf Course Road and Cyber Hub. The upcoming Metro extension is expected to significantly improve public transport and contribute to the city’s growing infrastructure.
