Punjab : In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids on the premises linked to an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA in Mohali as part of an ongoing investigation into a money laundering case. A team from Delhi reached Mohali early in the morning and began simultaneous searches at multiple locations associated with the legislator.

According to officials, the ED team is acting on evidence that points toward alleged financial irregularities involving laundering of illicit funds through shell companies and benami transactions. The identity of the MLA has not been officially disclosed yet, but sources suggest that this is part of a larger probe that spans across multiple states.

Family members of the MLA are currently being questioned regarding financial transactions, property holdings, and business associations. The ED has reportedly seized documents, mobile phones, laptops, and financial records that may be relevant to the investigation. Officials stated that these raids are being conducted under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The move has sparked a political storm, with AAP leaders criticizing the ED’s action as politically motivated. They allege that central agencies are being misused to target opposition parties ahead of key elections. However, ED sources maintain that the action is strictly legal and evidence-driven.

This isn’t the first time that AAP leaders have come under the scanner of central investigation agencies. Previously, senior leaders in Delhi and Punjab have faced raids and questioning over similar charges. The current operation in Mohali further intensifies the scrutiny faced by the ruling party in Punjab.

Local law enforcement has been assisting the ED in maintaining law and order during the raid. No official statement has been released yet by the MLA in question or the party’s Punjab unit, but party insiders suggest a press conference may be held later in the day.

As the investigation continues, the political and legal ramifications of this raid are expected to unfold in the coming days. All eyes are now on what evidence the ED uncovers and how this will impact the political landscape in Punjab.
