Disneyland workers pass strike authorization.
Los Angeles (United States): Californian workers at Disneyland endorsed a strike in a union-wide vote on Friday, paving the way for them to refuse to work at “the happiest place on Earth,” according to the theme park’s unions.
Since April, Disney and the unions, who collectively represent 14,000 workers at Disneyland Resort, have been negotiating pay raises and other perks.
Tensions have increased and talks have stagnated as some employees accuse Disney of engaging in anti-union behavior.
According to a union statement, 99% of members voted in support of authorizing the strike.
It lets union officials to set the conditions and duration of the strike as well as when to declare it.
Disney declared last week that it was “committed” to pursuing the talks that are set to take place on Monday and Tuesday.
Union members now have more negotiating leverage if the talks proceed as scheduled thanks to the strike authorization vote.
