Dhanteras is significant for health and not just wealth

Underlining that ‘Health is Wealth’ is the Universal Thumb-rule, our special contributor on Community health issues, Dr. Naresh Purohit* advises younger generation of today to adopt Ayurvedic way of Health and Livelihood !

New Delhi/Bhopal : The God of Health in Indian mythology, Dhanvantari emerged out of Samudra Manthan on Kartik Krishna paksh Triyodashi.

This day called, Dhanteras symbolizes the importance of health and well-being, making the day significant not just for Wealth but also for Health.
While Dhanteras celebrations involve merry making and feasts, the idea that health is the true wealth is forgotten. Not many remember that Dhanvantari is the originator of Ayurveda and blesses people with good health rather than wealth
Preventive medicine is where Ayurveda plays a major role in our healthcare system. A holistic way of healing which encompasses the mind body and consciousness is the core strength of this ancient Indian wisdom.
Health features low in the priority list for today’s generation. They rush to have everything and this harms their health in such a way that they can enjoy nothing.
Health and well-being remains one of the greatest challenges in this information technology era in which we are losing our moorings in nature to an invasive technology and artificial way of life.
Ayurveda:
Ayurveda is not just a system of medicine that aims at treating diseases. It teaches daily and seasonal health regimens that keep us in harmony with the movement of life, so that diseases do not arise in the first place.
Ayurveda teaches us the inner energetics of foods, spices and herbs, so that we can use them according to our individual constitution. It provides the details of right living through proper use of our senses and motor organs, and control of the mind through dharmic values and meditation. These are part of an Ayurvedic lifestyle to keep all that we do in harmony with the energies within us.
It is time to acknowledge Ayurveda as one of the most important traditions of natural healing in the world, yet extending to the powers of mind and consciousness and the universal prana as yoga teaches us.
Ayurveda is one of the greatest gifts of India’s profound spiritual and yogic culture.

On Dhanteras, when people pray for good health, they should remember that doctors are not God, and that to a large extent their health is in their own hands.
A doctor is born to cure. We consider it our dharma to serve patients. By default, no doctor wants to harm a patient. In fact when one loses a patient, the most affected and hurt individual is the doctor.
