Chandigarh-Punjab : On Saturday, Punjab experienced dense fog that severely impacted visibility, leading to multiple tragic accidents across the state. In Barnala, three women lost their lives when two buses, carrying members of farmer organizations, collided with a truck near Khanoori. The buses were en route to a farmer’s meeting, and the accident left 41 people injured. Six of the severely injured victims were referred to hospitals in Ludhiana and Patiala. The tragic event highlights the deadly consequences of the poor visibility caused by the thick fog.

Meanwhile, in Moga, a fatal accident occurred when a motorbike collided with a truck due to the fog. The rider, identified as Nauni from Jagraon, was killed on the spot, while another person was severely injured and transferred to Faridkot Medical College for treatment. The two were headed to the Baba Damu Shah Ji shrine when the accident took place near the Bugipura Chowk.

In another incident in Bathinda, a bus carrying farmers from the Bharatiya Kisan Union overturned near the Handia Bridge on the Chandigarh-Bathinda National Highway. Several passengers, including women, were injured, and three women were reported dead at the scene. These farmers were traveling to participate in a Mahapanchayat in Tohana. The visibility issues exacerbated the dangers of the fog, contributing to the numerous accidents reported across the region.

In addition to these incidents, a pedestrian in Abohar was struck by an unidentified vehicle while walking near Rajpura. The 40-year-old victim, identified as Keval Das from Bathinda, was a street vendor. The lack of visibility caused by the fog led to the fatal accident, adding to the series of tragedies caused by the weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 12 districts in Punjab, forecasting dense fog and cold wave conditions for the upcoming days. As temperatures drop and fog thickens, the risk of accidents is expected to rise, with the possibility of further disruptions to daily life.
