A tragic accident occurred on January 31 in Jind, Haryana, when a Transport Committee bus crashed into a bus queue shelter due to dense fog, injuring at least seven passengers. The accident took place at the Lohchab bus stand on the Jind-Safido road. Three people waiting at the queue shelter, including Chandi Ram (50), Narendra (25), and his nephew Sandeep (10), were injured. Additionally, several others, including the bus driver Jogender and conductor Nikhil, along with passengers such as Sarita, Annu (a student), and many others, sustained injuries. All the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital, where Chandi Ram’s condition was deemed critical and he was referred to PGI Rohtak for further treatment.

The bus driver, Jogender, explained that the fog was extremely thick, and the bus speed was kept low for safety. While approaching the Lohchab bus stand, another Transport Committee bus was coming from the opposite direction. To avoid a collision, Jogender swerved, but the buses side-swiped, causing the bus to lose control and crash into the queue shelter. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported.

The local police from the Sadar police station are investigating the incident. They have been checking the fog’s impact on visibility, as it created a hazardous environment, leading to poor sightlines and causing drivers to struggle with maneuvering their vehicles.

In another related incident, in Fatehabad, fog conditions caused a severe crash between a roadways bus and a trailer. The bus collided with the rear of the trailer, causing minor injuries to several passengers seated at the front. The injured passengers were later transferred to another bus to continue their journey.

The dense fog, which had not been present for the last fortnight, created serious traffic issues across the region. Visibility was nearly zero, forcing vehicles to move slowly with their lights on, exacerbating road hazards.
