Delhi govt adds 300 ICUs, Telemedicine centre to its Covid care centre

New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) The Delhi government has upgraded one of its temporary Covid-19 care with 300 ICU beds and a telemedicine centre. Delhi’s health minister Satyender Jain inaugurated the facility on Thursday and called it “the most unique field hospital in the whole world”.

The centre, set up at Sant Nirankari Ground located in North Delhi, is now be equipped with 1,100 beds after the addition of 300 ICU beds to the dedicated Covid care facility.

“This 800 bedded Covid Care Centre is being upgraded with more than 300 ICUs, ventilators and a Telemedicine Centre and will be one of the best and most unique field hospitals in the whole world,” Jain said.

Highlighting an extraordinary achievement of the facility, Jain said that that the Covid care centre has reported no death among the patients admitted there while the recovery rate recorded is over 90 per cent.

Meanwhile, the minister informed that around 750 doctors from the British Association For Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) will provide knowledge support to the staff of the health facility.

These doctors would provide consultation through telemedicine service set up at the centre.

Speaking on the scope of telemedicine, the minister stated that the Delhi government is looking for opportunities to harness more from the emerging health intervention.

“Covid-19 has made us use technology more than ever and this centre is a perfect example of how we are incorporating technology to create knowledge-sharing platforms, especially for healthcare experts so that the best treatment can be given to the people of Delhi. Telemedicine is an emerging trend which we are looking to harness more in the future and this is a good beginning,” he added.

Jain also stated that the AAP government will upgrade other Covid care centres as well. “Rest of the centres too will be made more effective, efficient and patient-friendly for which it is making all the efforts,” he added.
