Youth falls victim to cyber scam after being promised a bank job, loses over ₹2 lakh.
Yamuna Nagar: A new case of cyber fraud has emerged, where a man was duped of ₹2.33 lakh under the false pretext of a job in a bank. The scamsters even arranged an online interview and job confirmation, leading the victim to believe the offer was genuine. It was only when the victim grew suspicious that he approached the Cyber Crime Police Station to lodge a complaint, prompting an investigation.
Manish, a resident of Professor Colony, filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station, stating that he received a phone call in July from a woman claiming that he had been selected for a job at HDFC Bank. The caller informed him that a confirmation letter for the job could only be provided after sending a certain amount of money. Following her instructions, Manish transferred ₹2,500. Subsequently, a man named Harsh conducted an online interview with Manish and confirmed his selection for the job.
Over the course of the next few weeks, the accused continued to deceive Manish, demanding various payments under different pretexts, until the total amount swindled reached ₹2.33 lakh. When Manish tried to inquire about the job details, the accused started avoiding his calls. This raised his suspicions, leading him to approach the Cyber Crime Police Station to report the fraud.
The Cyber Crime Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. SHO Ravikant confirmed that the case of fraud under the guise of job placement is being thoroughly investigated.
