Chandigarh : A Congress delegation met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday, demanding a repoll in the Amritsar mayoral election, alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) misused administrative power to manipulate the results.
State Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring stated that the election process was unfair and violated democratic principles. He accused AAP of interfering in the polls, denying rightful representation to the people of Amritsar.
Congress leaders, including Partap Singh Bajwa, OP Soni, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, and Tript Rajinder Bajwa, also called for an impartial probe into the role of the administration in the election.
The polls were marred by controversy, with Congress claiming it had the support of 41 members, while AAP, with additional backing from SAD councillors, declared victory. Congress also alleged that votes were not properly counted and accused AAP of unfairly influencing the results.
