Cong neglected Ambedkar, Shastri: CM Bommai on Nehru row
Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said the BJP has not forgotten Jawaharlal Nehru and accused Congress of neglecting other national icons like BR Ambedkar and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
“We haven’t forgotten him and his works. We have respect for Nehru. In fact, there is a picture of him in that ad … The families of several national icons like Subash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Ambedkar are today not in mainstream politics,” he said at a BJP event to commemorate 75th anniversary of India’s independence.
Bommai made these remarks reacting to the Karnataka Congress on Sunday which took a dig at the BJP government for excluding Nehru in media advertisements on freedom fighters, terming its action “pathetic.”
He further slammed Congress for disallowing Ambedkar to come to Parliament and neglecting his memory for years.
The CM alleged that the historians who are tilted towards one of the fallen political ideologies have been making efforts to twist history for the last 75 years, but time has come to enlighten the people about the truth.
Bommai pointed out to Congress for failing to appreciate inclusion of some freedom fighters who were never even heard of before with their photos.
“No one spoke good about it, instead they (Congress) are sad that one of their leaders’ names was missing,” he said.
While Siddaramaiah calling him an “RSS slave”, Bommai said he is proud of the ideals of RSS and bowed his head to its patriotism. (UNI)
