Kasganj (UP), Feb 11 (UNI) Ahead of the second phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday a chowk in Sri Ram’s Ayodhya will be named after late Bharat Ratna and India’s ‘swar kokila’ Lata Mangeshkar. The announcement came from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath earlier during his address, when he told the rally that a road will be constructed and a crossing will be dedicated to the legendary singer, who passed away on February 6 at the age of 92 after eight decades of wooing her fans with her unparalleled vocals. Modi said: “The decision of the Yogi government is a welcome step. “Lata Mangeshkar, whose native home is in Goa and who was a life-long devotee of Shri Ram, a crossing in Ayodhya will be named after her. “That is the beauty of the spirit of unity in India. I congratulate the Yogi government for this decision. “Devotees visiting the Ram Mandir will cross this chowk, and recall her ‘bhajans’ and feel proud.” Modi also congratulated Adityanath for setting up Lata Mangeshkar Academy for music at Film City that will provide youth with an opportunity. Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital on January 8 after contracting Covid-19. She spent 28 days in the hospital. Modi attended her last rites which were held with full State honours on Sunday at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. PM Modi is canvassing for February 14 polls. Uttar Pradesh is seeking votes in seven phases that started on February 10 and will end on March 7.
