Chandigarh : Smart City Limited (CSCL) is set to shut down on March 20, with its ongoing projects being transferred to various government agencies. The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh will take over 32 projects, ensuring their continuation and completion. Meanwhile, four major projects will be handed over to different departments for further execution.

The decision to dissolve CSCL comes as part of the central government’s restructuring of the Smart Cities Mission. With most projects either completed or nearing completion, authorities believe that their management can now be efficiently handled by existing municipal bodies and relevant departments. Some of the key projects that will now fall under the Municipal Corporation include road infrastructure improvements, smart water management systems, and public space enhancements.

Among the four major projects assigned to other departments, initiatives related to public transportation, waste management, and digital governance will be managed by specialized agencies. Officials assure that the transition will be smooth and that there will be no disruption in services.

CSCL was established under the Smart Cities Mission to implement urban development initiatives in Chandigarh, improving infrastructure, public services, and sustainability. Over the years, it has overseen various modernization efforts, including smart traffic management, e-governance platforms, and upgraded civic amenities.

Residents and stakeholders are keenly observing the transition, hoping that the Municipal Corporation and other departments will efficiently manage the transferred projects. The administration has assured that all remaining projects will be completed as per their original timelines.

With CSCL ceasing operations, Chandigarh’s development efforts will now be led by local governing bodies, marking a new phase in the city’s urban transformation.
