Chandigarh DSP Traffic Meets BJP Spokesperson to Address E-Rickshaw Rules
Arora emphasizes the need for informing e-rickshaw drivers about traffic rules to avoid fines….
Chandigarh : In a recent meeting with the Chandigarh DSP Traffic, BJP spokesperson Arora raised concerns about the rising number of fines being issued to e-rickshaw drivers in the city. According to Arora, many e-rickshaw drivers are unaware of the traffic rules and regulations, which is leading to frequent violations and fines. He emphasized the importance of educating drivers about these rules to reduce the number of penalties and ensure smoother traffic management in the city.
Arora highlighted that while e-rickshaws are a vital mode of transportation for many, especially in urban areas, their drivers often lack proper awareness of the traffic laws that apply to them. He called for a targeted awareness campaign to inform e-rickshaw operators about the dos and don’ts of the road, which would not only help reduce fines but also promote safer driving practices. The BJP spokesperson pointed out that many drivers are being fined for offenses they did not even realize were violations, such as improper parking or not following designated routes.
The meeting with the DSP Traffic was a step towards addressing this issue, with both parties agreeing on the need for better communication and awareness programs. Arora suggested that traffic authorities collaborate with e-rickshaw unions and drivers to organize workshops and distribute informative materials regarding the rules. He also proposed that traffic police officers should take a more lenient approach by first educating drivers before imposing fines, giving them an opportunity to learn and correct their mistakes.
In response, the DSP Traffic acknowledged the problem and assured that the department would look into launching an initiative to educate e-rickshaw drivers. The department has also expressed its willingness to work closely with various stakeholders to ensure that both the drivers and the general public are well-informed about the traffic laws.
This meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic management and reduce violations in Chandigarh. By ensuring that e-rickshaw drivers are aware of the traffic rules, the city hopes to create a safer environment for all road users while minimizing fines and penalties for those who are simply unaware of the regulations.
