Chaitra Navratri 2025 Begins: Auspicious Time for Kalash Sthapana
Worship Maa Shailputri on the First Day of Chaitra Navratri for Peace and Prosperity
Chandigarh/Jaipur: Chaitra Navratri 2025 has begun today, March 30, marking the start of the nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine divine forms. The first day of Chaitra Navratri is devoted to Maa Shailputri, who is revered as the embodiment of strength, purity, and devotion. Devotees across India and beyond celebrate this sacred occasion by observing rituals, fasting, and offering prayers to seek the blessings of the Goddess.
A significant ritual on the first day is Kalash Sthapana, also known as Ghatasthapana, which symbolizes the invocation of Goddess Durga into the household. The ritual is performed at an auspicious time, following Vedic guidelines, ensuring divine blessings for prosperity and well-being. A sacred pot (Kalash) filled with water, betel nut, and coins is placed at the altar, and a coconut wrapped in a red cloth is positioned on top, signifying the presence of divine energy. Worshippers light incense, offer flowers, and chant prayers, invoking the Goddess’s grace.
Maa Shailputri, the first manifestation of Goddess Durga, is worshiped on this day with great devotion. According to Hindu mythology, she is the daughter of the Himalayas and represents the element of earth, symbolizing stability and strength. Devotees offer white flowers, milk, and pure ghee as part of the puja rituals, as these are believed to please the Goddess. It is believed that worshiping Maa Shailputri on this day removes obstacles and brings peace and harmony into one’s life.
The festival of Chaitra Navratri holds immense spiritual significance, marking the beginning of the Hindu New Year in many regions. It is a time of devotion, fasting, and prayer, leading up to Ram Navami, the birth anniversary of Lord Rama. Temples and households resonate with the sounds of devotional songs and mantras, creating an atmosphere of divine energy and positivity.
As devotees embark on this sacred journey of nine days, they seek the blessings of Maa Durga for strength, wisdom, and happiness. The rituals and observances of Chaitra Navratri are deeply rooted in Hindu tradition, reminding everyone of the power of faith and devotion in leading a righteous life.
