Air India, Vistara, IndiGo and various international airlines have opted for alternative flight paths to the West and are avoiding the Iranian airspace amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel.

Air India operates four weekly flights between the national capital and Israeli city.

Air India is the only Indian carrier that operates flights to Israel. It has four weekly flights connecting Delhi and Tel Aviv.

The 14 new airports where the facility is to be rolled out soon are Bagdogra, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dabolim, Indore, Mangalore, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar, Trivandrum and Vishakhapatnam.

The airline industry is grappling with challenges in scaling up capacity to match demand and are even using larger aircraft on domestic routes.

"Air India (along with AIX and Vistara) and BIAL will collaborate to enhance international connectivity over the next five years,” said the Tata Group airline

Vistara says it has deployed larger aircraft like its B787-9 Dreamliner TM and A321 Neo on select domestic routes to accommodate more customers, wherever possible.

The Tata Group airline cancelled many flights earlier this week due to the non-availability of pilots and has also been forced to temporarily reduce the overall flight operations in order to stabilise the situation.

The move comes against the backdrop of non-availability of pilots forcing Vistara to cancel a significant number of flights in recent days.

The liabilities with EDC stem from a loan acquired by the airline in 2011 for procurement of 15 aircraft.

India, which is one of the world's fastest-growing civil aviation markets, is also seen in some quarters as price sensitive, especially with rising number of air travellers, including first-time fliers.
