BPCL to set up Ethanol production plant in Telangana

Hyderabad, Jul 13 (UNI) Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) on Tuesday announced to set up Ethanol production plant in Telangana with an investment of Rs 1000 crore.
A high-powered team from BPCL who met Telangana Principal Secretary (Industries and Commerce) Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, expressed there interest in setting up a 1st Generation Ethanol production plant in the State.
This meeting comes after Union Government announced a favorable policy to increase Ethanol production in the country.
During the meeting, Mr. Anurag Saraogi, Executive Director (Bio Fuels), BPCL, said the proposed plant capacity was 500,000 Liters per day and to be set up with approximately Rs 1000 cr investment.
Commenting on the potential in the State, Mr. Anurag said, “Telangana is Ethanol deficient as on date, considering 10 percent blending requirements in Motor Spirit (MS) . In view of 20 percent blending targets by 2025-26 as per the Road map document released by Niti Aayog and MoPNG in June-2021, BPCL is planning to set up a 500 KLD capacity grain based 1G Ethanol plant in the state of Telangana which will not only facilitate the production of 1G Ethanol and contribute revenue to the state but also generate huge direct and indirect employment in the state, he said.
This project will also go a long way in reducing air pollution.
To set up 1G Ethanol plant of 500 KLPD capacity, we need about 100 Acres of land having proximity to source of water as the plant requires about 4000 KL Day of water for its regular operations, he added.
In response to BPCL team’s request, Mr. Jayesh Ranjan assured that the Government of Telangana will extend all necessary support to set up 1st Generation Ethanol production plant in the State, and allotment of land along with necessary clearances will be fast tracked.
ln line with the directives of MOPNG,, BPCL has to set up 1st Generation (food grain based) Ethanol blending facilities to improve Ethanol blending in Motor spirit in 5 states including Telangana which will eventually result in decrease in our crude import and would also result in less pollution to environment.
