Boat tragedy in Bangladesh claims 24 lives

Dhaka: At least 24 people died in a boat tragedy in Karatoa river at Panchagarh in North Bengal of Bangladesh. This incident took place in Aulia Ghat area of ​​Madea Bamanhat Union of the upazila at around 1:30 pm today. Boda Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Soleman Ali confirmed this information in UNI.
Among the dead are 8 children, 4 men and 12 women. Eight of them died after being taken to the Upazila Health Complex. The bodies of the remaining 16 have been kept on the banks of the river.
UNO Md. Soleman Ali said, on the occasion of Autumn Durgotsava Mahalaya, from Auliya Ghat in Madea Bazar area, about 70-80 people were going towards Badeshwari Temple in Barashashi Union in a shallow engine boat. After some distance from the wharf, the boat started rocking. At this time, the sailor tried to bring the boat back to the pier. At one point the boat sinks. Many of the boat’s passengers swam ashore. Local people also joined the rescue operations. (UNI)
