BJP stages protests against PM’s security lapse, slams Congress
New Delhi, Jan 7 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday staged protests in Delhi against the breach in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security in Punjab.
MPs of the party held a protest in the Parliament House near the Gandhi Statue, holding placards and shouting slogans. Members of Delhi BJP meanwhile held a silent protest near Rajghat.
This came a day after BJP leaders held ‘Mahamritunjay jaap’, and prayed for the long life of Prime Minister Modi.
BJP MPs PP Chaudhary, Ramesh Bidhuri, Locket Chatterjee and Rajendra Agarwal were among the MPs who participated in the protest in Parliament House.
Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said “The way Congress put the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in danger, that shows the mindset of the party.” Gupta along with party Sikh cell workers held a protest outside Congress office at 24 Akbar Road against breach of PM’s security.
Gupta said the prime minister of the country belongs to the whole country and not a particular party so it is everyone’s responsibility to respect and safeguard him. Earlier in the day, after the silent protest, Gupta had blamed the Punjab government for the lapse.
BJP’s Punjab in-charge Dushyant Gautam, who was also present at the protest at Rajghat, said “Congress always stands with separatists and supporters of Pakistan, it has been evident from time to time by the statements of big Congress leaders. The Punjab government of Congress hatched a conspiracy to play with the security of the Prime Minister.”
BJP leaders have decided to continue to protest over the lapse, and to convert it into a nationwide campaign against the Congress.
The BJP has prepared a strategy to run a nationwide campaign against the Congress for the incident of lapse with the security of the Prime Minister.
Party sources said senior leaders of the party will visit the Raj Bhavans of their respective states and union territories and submit a memorandum to the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor highlighting the incident.
Modi could not attend a rally in Ferozepur in Punjab on Wednesday after his cavalcade got stuck on a flyover for around 20 minutes due to a roadblock by protesters. The Home Ministry has called it a major security lapse.
