Bhiwani: A disturbing case of dowry harassment has surfaced in Bhiwani, Haryana, where a newlywed woman has accused her husband and in-laws of torturing her for dowry. She has alleged that her in-laws forcefully administered intoxicants to keep her unconscious while her husband persistently pressured her to bring a car as dowry.

According to the woman’s complaint, she was married just five months ago, but since the early days of her marriage, she faced continuous harassment. Despite her family already providing substantial dowry, her in-laws were unsatisfied and demanded a car. When she refused, she was subjected to mental and physical abuse.

The woman further alleged that her father-in-law regularly gave her intoxicants, leaving her in a dazed state throughout the day. Instead of protecting her, her husband supported his family’s demands and continued to pressure her for the car. When she resisted, she was brutally assaulted.

Somehow, the woman managed to inform her family about her suffering. Her relatives immediately rescued her and took her to her parental home. The matter was reported to the police, following which an investigation was initiated. Authorities have recorded the victim’s statement and are currently gathering evidence against the accused.

Preliminary findings indicate that the woman had been subjected to harassment from the initial days of her marriage. Despite stringent anti-dowry laws in place, cases like these continue to emerge, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement and awareness. Women’s rights activists stress the importance of robust implementation of laws to curb such atrocities.

The police have assured strict action against the culprits based on the investigation. Meanwhile, the woman is recovering under her family’s care and is demanding justice.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the persistent dowry menace in Indian society, where even educated families engage in such harmful practices. Authorities and social organizations are urging women to come forward and report such crimes to ensure justice and prevent further exploitation.

The investigation is ongoing, and legal proceedings will follow based on the findings. The police have also urged the public to report similar incidents immediately to safeguard victims and ensure their well-being.
