BCCI Confirms Adherence to ICC Dress Code for Champions Trophy
BCCI dismisses reports of objection to host Pakistan’s name on team jerseys; talks about Rohit Sharma’s travel to Pakistan still ongoing…..
New Delhi : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the Indian cricket team will strictly adhere to the dress code established by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the upcoming Champions Trophy. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed speculations that the board had objected to the host nation, Pakistan’s name, being included on the team’s official jerseys.
The Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 19, will be held under a “Hybrid Model” due to security concerns, with India opting to play its matches in Dubai rather than travel to Pakistan. Saikia emphasized that the Indian team would comply with the ICC’s uniform rules, as all teams are expected to.
As for national captain Rohit Sharma’s participation in ICC media engagements in Lahore, including a press conference and photo shoot, Saikia mentioned that this decision is still under discussion. There were media reports suggesting that the BCCI had raised objections regarding the host country’s name on the jersey, but these have been clarified as unfounded. It is understood that the BCCI never expressed concerns over the ICC’s logo guidelines.
The tournament will also see India playing all its matches in Dubai, including the high-stakes league match against Pakistan. If India progresses to the semi-finals and finals, those will also be held in Dubai. The opening match between hosts Pakistan and New Zealand will take place in Karachi on February 19.
