Arvind Kejriwal Confirms AAP Will Contest Delhi Assembly Elections Solo, Rejects Congress Alliance

AAP leader firmly rejects any possibility of a coalition with Congress for the upcoming Delhi elections, as his party prepares to fight on its own strength.

Delhi: In a clear statement, Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), reiterated that his party will go solo in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, rejecting any possibility of a coalition with the Congress. The AAP leader emphasized that the party is confident about contesting the election based on its own strength, aiming for a third consecutive term.

Kejriwal’s statement comes amidst growing speculation regarding possible seat-sharing talks between AAP and the Congress, which were allegedly in the final stages. However, Kejriwal dismissed such rumors, making it clear that AAP would not enter into any alliance.

The AAP, which has emerged as a dominant force in Delhi politics, has already released its second list of candidates for the Delhi assembly polls. The list includes 20 candidates, with prominent names such as Manish Sisodia, who will contest from Jangpura instead of his previous seat in Patparganj. The party has also made significant changes by replacing 17 sitting MLAs with new faces, signaling a refreshed approach for the upcoming elections.

Earlier in December, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devendra Yadav criticized AAP and Kejriwal for allegedly being responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in the capital. Yadav demanded that Chief Minister Atishi resign, drawing parallels to Kejriwal’s demand for former CM Sheila Dikshit’s resignation after the Nirbhaya incident.

Despite the criticisms from the Congress, AAP remains focused on strengthening its position in the upcoming elections, with the Delhi polls slated for early 2025. The party’s decisive stance on going it alone reflects its confidence in retaining power in the capital, where it secured 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 assembly election.
