Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande conferred Hony Rank Nepal Army General

Kathmandu: Continuing a tradition of friendship between the armies of India and Nepal, Indian Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande was on Monday conferred with the Honorary Rank of General of Nepali Army by President of Nepal Bidhya Devi Bhandari at Sheetal Niwas in Kathmandu.
Gen Manoj Pande is on a four-day visit to Nepal to enhance existing bilateral defence ties and strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
“General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff, was conferred Honorary Rank of General of the Nepali Army by Right Honorable President of Nepal continuing the unique tradition and reflecting the close and friendly ties between India and Nepal,” Indian Embassy wrote on Twitter.
Earlier in the day, Gen Pande paid homage at Bir Smarak in Tundikhel. He was accorded a guard of honour by the Nepali Army following which he planted a tree sapling at Nepali Army headquarters.
He also held a meeting with Nepal Army Chief Gen Prabhu Ram Sharma and discussed avenues for enhancing India-Nepal defence relations.
Gen Pande also presented equipment along with light vehicles to the Nepali Army for augmenting their technical capabilities.
The Army Chief is also scheduled to interact with the student officers and faculty of the Nepali Army Command and Staff College Shivpuri.
The Army Chief is scheduled to call on the Prime Minster of Nepal on Tuesday.
India- Nepal relations are historic, multifaceted and marked by common cultural and civilizational ties, apart from mutual respect and trust.
India attaches highest priority to its relationship with Nepal in accordance with its ‘Neighborhood First’ and ‘Act East’ policies.
This visit of Army Chief provides an opportunity to take stock of the existing bilateral defence ties and strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, the Indian Army said. (UNI)
