Amritsar : Amritsar police successfully rescued two Sri Lankan nationals, Kanishka and Sumardhan, from kidnappers in Hoshiarpur after they were lured by fake travel agents promising work visas to Albania. The victims, part of a group of six Sri Lankan citizens, had arrived in India on December 2 and were introduced to the suspects by a Sri Lankan national named Asitha in Delhi.
The accused, Ankit and Inderjit Singh, took $3,000 from the victims in exchange for the visas. On December 27, they called the victims to Amritsar, claiming to have secured their work visas. However, once they arrived, the kidnappers demanded an additional 8,000 Euros for their release.
The other members of the group reported the incident to the Division A police, leading to a swift investigation. The police identified and arrested Ankit and Inderjit Singh, while their third accomplice, a Gurdaspur resident, remains at large. Asitha, who introduced the victims to the fraudsters, will also be arrested.
Inderjit Singh has been previously involved in cases under the Arms Act and NDPS Act.
