In a major development in the Harbilas murder case, a dramatic encounter unfolded on January 30 when Abhishek, who was riding pillion on a bike, opened fire on the police team. The police, led by CIA-1 Incharge Inspector Harjinder Singh, were in pursuit of the suspects near Shhzadpur Anaj Mandi. Information had been received about the two shooters, Rajan and Abhishek (alias Mangu), waiting near Raseedpur Cut on a motorcycle. As the police team approached, the suspects attempted to flee, leading to a tense exchange of fire.
Abhishek fired several rounds at the police, two of which hit the police vehicle, and two bullets struck the bulletproof jacket worn by ASI Sukhbir Singh. Despite the gunfire, the police team continued their pursuit, and after about 20 minutes, both shooters were finally subdued after sustaining gunshot wounds to their legs. The police arrested Rajan and Abhishek, and a case was filed against them for illegal arms possession and attempted murder under criminal sections related to organized crime.
The chase began when the CIA-1 team was stationed near Shhzadpur Anaj Mandi, where they learned that the shooters were waiting at Raseedpur Cut. As the police approached, the suspects fled, and Abhishek fired at them. He aimed at the police vehicle, but the shots missed their target. Another bullet fired by Abhishek hit the police vehicle’s windshield. In a desperate attempt to escape, the suspects took a dirt road, but ASI Sukhbir Singh returned fire, hitting Rajan in the leg.
Abhishek, still on the run, attempted to shoot at the police officers but was struck by returning fire from ASI Sukhbir Singh, injuring his leg. Both shooters were apprehended, and a country-made pistol and another firearm were recovered from the scene.
