Gurugram (Haryana) : A shocking allegation has surfaced from Gurugram, where an air hostess has accused staff at Medanta Hospital of sexually assaulting her while she was unconscious and on a ventilator. The incident allegedly occurred during her treatment, raising serious questions about patient safety and accountability in private medical institutions.

The victim, in her formal complaint, stated that she was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition and placed on a ventilator. During her recovery, she claims to have experienced signs and symptoms suggesting that she had been sexually violated during the period she was unconscious. Upon regaining partial awareness, she reportedly sensed something was wrong and later underwent medical tests that further raised suspicions.

The case has triggered outrage on social media and among women’s rights activists, who are demanding an impartial investigation and stringent action against those found guilty. Many have expressed concern about the vulnerability of female patients in critical care settings, emphasizing the need for improved surveillance and staff accountability.

In its official response, Medanta Hospital has stated that the allegations are serious but unproven at this stage. The hospital management has assured full cooperation with the authorities and emphasized that an internal inquiry is underway. “We take patient safety and dignity with utmost seriousness. However, the allegations are currently under investigation, and no staff member has been proven guilty as of now,” said a spokesperson from Medanta.

The Gurugram police have initiated an inquiry and collected CCTV footage from relevant sections of the hospital. Statements from medical and support staff are being recorded as part of the ongoing probe. Authorities have also assured that the victim will be provided full protection and support during the legal process.

This incident has reignited a broader conversation about the safety and ethical conduct of hospital staff, especially in high-dependency units like ICUs where patients are most vulnerable. Health professionals and legal experts are calling for reforms, including better monitoring, stricter hiring procedures, and compulsory presence of female attendants during treatment of women in sensitive conditions.

As investigations continue, the public awaits justice and accountability. The case serves as a grim reminder that medical institutions must ensure not only healing but also absolute trust and protection for their patients.
