AAP corners BJP-SAD-Cong on SYL issue; they delayed it for political gains

Chandigarh: On the Satluj-Yamuna Link Canal (SYL) issue, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) surrounded the BJP-Akali and Congress and said the previous governments in Punjab are responsible for this conundrum today as they deliberately lingered the SYL for decades due to their vested political interest.

Addressing the media at the Chandigarh party headquarters on Friday, AAP Punjab’s chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang termed the Congress party as ‘real culprits’ for the SYL controversy and said the Indira Gandhi-led central government was the first to rob Punjab’s waters. He questioned the Congress that in 2004, there was a government of the Congress party in Haryana, Punjab and in all three places, then why did Congress failed to find a solution?
Accusing former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of taking forward the dastardly agenda of Congress, Kang said the Badal government had issued a notification to acquire land for SYL in 1978. Not only this, he also wrote a letter to the Devi Lal government of Haryana to release an installment of Rs 3 crore for SYL.
Taking a dig at former CM Captain Amarinder Singh, Kang said Capt., who talked about the rights of Punjab, had taken ‘silver spade’ to dig the SYL canal in 1982.
Kang also lashed out at the Punjab BJP leaders and asked them if Haryana is getting water from Yamuna, then why is Punjab not getting it? And why was the representation of Punjab in BBMB removed by the central government? Punjab BJP leaders should answer this and seek clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added. (UNI)
