AAP Appoints Aman Arora as New Punjab President, Replaces CM Bhagwant Mann

Strategic Move to Strengthen Party Base and Counter BJP's Influence in Punjab New leadership aims to consolidate Hindu vote bank ahead of upcoming election

CHANDIGARH: In a significant organisational reshuffle, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday appointed cabinet minister Aman Arora as the new president of its Punjab unit, succeeding Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The move comes after Mann expressed his desire to step down from the post, citing his dual responsibilities as CM and party leader.

Arora, a prominent Hindu leader known for his inclusive approach and dynamic leadership, is expected to play a crucial role in expanding the party’s appeal among Hindu voters, a key demographic in Punjab. The AAP is focusing on consolidating its position in the state as the BJP seeks to make inroads into Punjab’s political landscape. According to the 2011 Census, Hindus comprise 38.49% of Punjab’s population, with significant voting strength in 34 assembly constituencies.

In addition to Arora’s appointment, Batala MLA Amansher Singh Shery Kalsi was named the new working president. Arora and Kalsi expressed their gratitude to both CM Mann and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, promising to strengthen the party ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.

“AAP Government Has No Negative Baggage”
Arora, speaking after his appointment, stressed that the AAP government in Punjab has a strong track record of development and has no negative baggage. He promised to highlight the party’s achievements in the upcoming assembly bypolls and said that the key to the party’s success would be to continue focusing on governance and development.

In his remarks, Arora emphasized that every community should feel represented in the party. “AAP is the most secular party, but we also understand that political representation must reflect the diverse demographics of the state,” he added.

Mann, who was first appointed AAP Punjab convener in 2017, had previously announced his desire to step down from the post. He has expressed full confidence in Arora and Kalsi, stating, “I have full confidence in both my colleagues that they will strengthen the party and the organisation.”

AAP’s Focus on Securing Future Electoral Success
The reshuffle reflects AAP’s strategic focus on consolidating leadership in Punjab as it prepares for upcoming electoral challenges, including the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and future assembly bypolls.
