NK Singh succeeds former PM Manmohan Singh as IEG President
New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) A member of core group of advisors and strategists during India’s economic reforms of 1991 and Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission NK Singh has succeeded former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh as President of the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) Society, a premier applied economics research institution.
The IEG General body on August 16, 2021 elected NK Singh after the former PM desired to step down citing advanced age and indifferent health. He proposed the name of NK Singh as his successor.
Dr Singh had been at the helm of IEG as President since 1992.
“…..in the light of my advanced age and indifferent health I am having to withdraw from several active duties. I am afraid I will have to ask you to continue your journey with another leader. With this in mind, I would propose the name of my trusted and able friend Shri NK Singh, to lead IEG Society as its President,” said the former PM who led the UPA government for two consecutive terms.
“NK has had a long association with the Institute and this relation has been revived recently in the form of his induction to the Board of Trustees as a member. He is a proven leader with five decades of excellent work and superlative achievement in public policy design and implementation,” he added.
Members of the IEG General Body expressed their deep appreciation of Dr Manmohan Singh’s contributions over all these years as a guiding force and paid rich tributes.
While honouring his wish to be relieved of the Presidency, members highlighted his role in shaping IEG’s strong research culture and standing as an institution of excellence in research and training.
