Dehradun, Jun 21 (UNI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Monday appealed to people to make yoga a part of our daily lives for leading a healthy life.

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Mr Rawat performed Yogic postures or asanas, and said ‘Yoga is a science that unifies the body, heart and soul.’

The United Nations announcement to observe June 21 as the International Yoga Day was a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative, he said.

Uttarakhand’s contribution in popularizing yoga across the world has been significant, he said.

Talking about the state’s association with yoga, Ayush Minister Harak Singh Rawat said, ‘In the ancient times saints and ascetics did yoga in the caves of Uttarakhand. The whole world today recognises the power of yoga that had its origins here.’

State Women and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya also performed yog asanas and said ‘with yoga, we can fight coronavirus.’
