Overwhelming performance by women of Self Help Groups, 1534 elected as Pradhans

BJP claims 60 percent success

Lucknow, May 9 (UNI) The political recognition of women is quite evident in the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Election results. Inspired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s women empowerment programmes and Mission Shakti, Women self-help groups (SHGs) are writing a new story of success in Uttar Pradesh. A substantial number of girls and women in the state today are getting benefitted from visionary schemes of the Yogi-led government.
In the recent Panchayat elections held in the state, 1534 women associated with SHGs have been elected as Gram Pradhan. This is the first time in the state that such a large number of women have contested in Panchayat elections and won. As a result of CM Yogi’s efforts, these women are becoming self-reliant and now will be playing an important role in the village panchayats.
In the UP panchayat elections 2021, a total of 3521 women of the self-help group contested for various posts, of which 1534 won the election.
Director of UP State Livelihood Mission, Sujit Kumar said here on Sunday that, “CM Yogi has linked the women of self-help groups with the operation of government ration shop, the responsibility of electricity bill connection and stitching of school dress, among many other programs. Many types of training have also been given to women by the department”.
The programs that have been started for women in the last three to four years has gradually raised the confidence of women. Now women are not only contesting elections but have also won on a large scale.
The maximum nine women elected as member of Zila Panchayat in Bahraich.
Members of the Women Self-help group have won in 11 districts for the post of member of Zila Panchayat. Of which, 2 in Ambedkaranagar, one in Amethi, one in Ayodhya, one in Baghpat, 9 in Bahraich, 2 in Barabanki, one in Basti, one in Kanpur Nagar, one in Prayagraj, 2 in Unnao and one woman was elected in Varanasi.
815 women stood second for various other posts. 662 out of 1791 women won the post of Gram Pradhan. While 474 women finished second. Similarly, 415 out of 522 women have won the post of Gram Panchayat member and 42 came in second place. Out of 1140 women, 476 have been elected for the post of Kshetra Panchayat member and 293 came in second place. Of the 68 women for the post of Zilla Panchayat members, 22 women won and six were second.
The highest 37 women elected as Gram Pradhan in Fatehpur.
