Alleged Embezzlement During Amit Shah’s Visit: CVC Orders Probe Into Fraudulent Committee and Expenses
Fake procurement records and bypassed tenders under scrutiny after crores allegedly misused during 2022 Chandigarh event…
Chandigarh : A serious case of alleged embezzlement involving public funds has emerged during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Chandigarh on March 27, 2022. According to official sources, lakhs of rupees were misappropriated in the name of procurement and rental arrangements for the high-profile event. The matter has now reached the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), which has ordered a formal investigation.
The accusations primarily revolve around irregularities in the tendering process. Officials reportedly bypassed the standard procedure by showing hurried purchases and service rentals as emergency requirements. However, it has come to light that most of the tenting, equipment, and logistical arrangements were already in place well before the paperwork was processed, raising suspicions of pre-planned manipulation of financial records.
A fake committee is said to have been constituted to justify the allocation and approval of these expenses. Documents reveal post-dated entries, suggesting that the materials and services were retroactively billed to avoid scrutiny and accountability. The Chandigarh UT Police have submitted a formal complaint to the Central Vigilance Commission, detailing the discrepancies and calling for a thorough investigation.
Following this, the CVC has instructed the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) in Chandigarh to initiate a comprehensive probe. The investigation will focus on identifying the officials involved, tracing the flow of funds, and examining procurement-related documentation for inconsistencies. Any attempt to fabricate committees or tamper with financial processes will be investigated as a violation of service conduct rules and possibly criminal conspiracy.
Sources close to the matter indicated that inflated billing, ghost vendors, and lack of proper receipts are central to the complaint. The alleged misuse of public money during such a high-security and high-profile visit has triggered political and public outrage, demanding accountability from those involved.
As the probe begins, the administration is under pressure to ensure transparency and take swift action. This incident once again highlights the persistent issue of corruption in administrative setups, even during events involving the top echelons of political leadership. The outcome of the investigation could have far-reaching implications for governance practices in Union Territories and beyond.
