Farmers to Hold Mahapanchayat in Punjab Today: Show of Strength Begins
Dallewal’s Medical Facility Resumes After 7 Days; Protesters to Gherao Ferozepur SSP Office…..
Chandigarh : Punjab is set to witness another major farmers’ protest as agricultural unions gear up for a Mahapanchayat starting today. The event aims to demonstrate the strength of the farmers’ movement, which continues to demand the fulfillment of long-pending promises, including MSP guarantees and fair compensation.
One of the key developments ahead of the protest is the resumption of medical facilities for Jagjit Singh Dallewal, a prominent farmer leader, after a 7-day pause. His deteriorating health had become a major concern for supporters, and with medical assistance now available, farmer unions feel reinvigorated to push forward with their agitation.
Adding to the tension, farmers have announced plans to gherao the Ferozepur SSP office in protest against alleged police excesses and government inaction. Leaders claim that authorities have been trying to suppress their voices instead of addressing their genuine concerns. The Ferozepur protest is expected to see participation from thousands of farmers, and security in the region has been heightened.
The Punjab government has so far refrained from making any direct confrontational moves, but sources suggest that officials are in discussions with farmer representatives to defuse tensions. However, given the strong mobilization of protestors, an immediate resolution seems unlikely.
Farmers are also demanding the implementation of promises made in previous agreements, including loan waivers, fair crop prices, and relief from electricity bills. The government’s failure to act on these commitments has fueled widespread frustration.
Political analysts believe that this Mahapanchayat could be a decisive moment for the farmers’ movement in Punjab. If the government does not respond effectively, protests may intensify in the coming weeks.
With farmer protests gaining momentum once again, all eyes are on Punjab’s leadership and how they handle the growing unrest. Will authorities engage in meaningful dialogue, or will another prolonged agitation unfold? The coming days will be crucial in shaping the future of Punjab’s farmer movement.
