Baghpat (UP) : A tragic incident unfolded in Baraut city, Baghpat, where seven people lost their lives and around 60 others were injured when a temporary wooden structure collapsed during a religious event. The incident occurred around 8 am on Tuesday during a programme held for the ‘Abhishek’ of Lord Adinath at Shri Digambar Jain Degree College ground on Gandhi Road.
The event was part of the Moksha Kalyanak Nirvana Mahotsav of the Jain community, organized under the aegis of Shri 1008 Adinath Bhaktaambar Prachar. Authorities reported that 100 people had gathered for the event when the 65-foot wooden structure suddenly collapsed, causing many devotees to fall from the stage.

Among the injured, 20 people were discharged after receiving first aid, while 39 others are being treated at a hospital. Police confirmed that the collapse occurred due to the breaking of wooden stairs in the Maanstambh Complex. A case has been registered against the contractor responsible for building the structure, and a magisterial inquiry has been ordered.

Witnesses claimed that the injured struggled to receive immediate medical assistance as no ambulances were available, forcing many to be transported in e-rickshaws. The event had been an annual tradition for 30 years, but this year’s tragedy has cast a shadow over the community gathering.
