Hisar : On the solemn occasion of Republic Day, Haryana mourned the demise of one of its most revered freedom fighters, who played a pivotal role in India’s independence movement. The 98-year-old veteran passed away peacefully at his residence, leaving behind a legacy of courage and patriotism.

Hailing from a small village in Haryana, he was a prominent figure in the struggle against British rule. One of his most notable contributions was leading a mass anti-tax movement in present-day Pakistan during the 1940s. The movement galvanized local farmers and workers to oppose the oppressive taxation policies imposed by the colonial government. His leadership in this campaign earned him recognition as a fearless leader of the independence movement.

In another historic feat, he became the first to hoist the Indian tricolor in Amritsar, defying British orders and inspiring thousands to join the freedom struggle. This act of defiance symbolized the spirit of independence and served as a rallying cry for those fighting for India’s liberation.

The late freedom fighter endured multiple imprisonments during his lifetime for his role in various protests and movements. Haryana Chief Minister and several dignitaries expressed their condolences, praising his selfless contributions to the nation. “He was a true patriot who devoted his entire life to the service of the country. His sacrifices and unwavering commitment will continue to inspire generations,” the Chief Minister said in his statement.

The funeral was attended by hundreds of people, including local leaders, freedom fighters, and citizens who came to pay their respects. The national flag was draped over his mortal remains as a mark of honor.

As the nation celebrated Republic Day, the loss of such a towering personality served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by countless individuals to secure India’s freedom.
