Chandigarh: Haryana continues to reel under harsh winter conditions, with dense fog blanketing seven districts, severely impacting visibility and daily activities. The affected districts include Karnal, Jhajjar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Panipat, Sonipat, and Ambala, where visibility dropped to as low as 20 meters due to thick fog.

The coldest spot in the state was recorded in Balsamand, Hisar, where the temperature dipped to 6.6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Bhiwani and Mahendragarh experienced relatively clear weather, with chances of sunshine in these regions.

According to the Meteorological Department, a change in weather conditions is expected soon. A western disturbance is likely to affect the state starting January 21, bringing with it the possibility of rain on January 22 and 23. This shift in weather is expected to provide some respite from the ongoing cold wave and dense fog.

Residents in fog-hit areas have been advised to exercise caution while traveling, especially during the early morning and late evening hours when fog is at its peak. The minimal visibility has disrupted road and rail transport, causing delays and inconvenience to commuters.

The dense fog and biting cold have also led to a rise in health issues, including respiratory problems and seasonal illnesses. Doctors recommend wearing warm clothing, staying indoors during peak fog hours, and maintaining proper hydration to avoid complications.

The agricultural sector, too, has been affected by the cold and foggy conditions. Farmers are concerned about the impact of low temperatures on crops like wheat and mustard. However, the predicted rainfall might benefit the Rabi crops, especially in regions with adequate soil moisture.

Local authorities have taken measures to ensure road safety by deploying teams to monitor highways and major roads. Awareness campaigns are being conducted to encourage drivers to use fog lights and drive cautiously in low-visibility conditions.

As the state braces for the expected rainfall, weather experts have urged residents to stay updated with official forecasts and prepare accordingly. The combination of cold weather and rain may further affect daily life but could also bring much-needed relief to the regions struggling with extreme cold and fog.

With the current spell of severe winter conditions and the forecast of rain, Haryana is witnessing the full impact of seasonal changes. The coming days will reveal how the anticipated rainfall influences the weather and the lives of the people in the state.
