1839 – Darjiling Tea from India 1st  consignment arrives in  England.

1855 – English inventor, Henry Bessemer took out a British patent for his “decarbonisation process, utilising a blast of air” that revolutionised steel manufacturing 1863 – 1st underground railway opens in London.

1911 – The first photograph to be taken in the U.S. from an airplane.

1920 – League of Nations established. It was the first international organisation whose principal mission was to maintain world peace.

1920 – India became member of League of Nations.

1946 – The first meeting of the United Nations General Assembly took place in the Westminster Central Hall in London. 51 nations were represented.

1946 – The U.S. Army Project Diana team detected radar signals reflected off the moon’s surface. A 180 cycle wave pulse with a 1/4 sec duration was beamed by the Army Signal Corps from the Evans Signal Laboratories, New Jersey. The echo was received 2.4 sec. later, proving that radio waves could penetrate Earth’s atmosphere.

1949 – RCA introduced the “single,” a 7-inch diameter 45 rpm record in the U.S. A single could play eight minutes of sound per side. Columbia had introduced the 12″ long-playing vinyl 33 rpm as a new format the previous year. These formats greatly improved upon the 78 rpm records, which were limited to only 5 minutes per side on a 12″ disk.

1951 – 1st jet passenger trip made. It was believed to be in a Chase XC-123A, the English Electric Canberra, and the Bristol Brabazon.

1966 – Tashkent Conference between Pakistan and Indian leaders ended after signing of peace accord by Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and Pak’s General Ayub Khan. Peace Accord was signed but India lost Shastri ji next morning  due to alleged sabotage (pic credit-Global).

1975 – India accords recognition to the Palestine Liberation Organisation.

2019 – Oceans warming faster than previous thought due to fossil fuel burning, according to data published in journal “Science”.

Born…. 1940 – KJ Yesudas, legendary Indian film, classical and  devotional singer/musician. Best known for his songs in  Chitchor,  Lamhe, Anand Mahal etc. He sang about 50,000 songs/bhajans. Born in Kochi Kerala, he has sung many Hindi, Kannada and other language bhajans/songs. He has now almost shifted to Dallas, America. He has been awarded Padam Bhushan and other film/music awards.

1960 – Gurinder Chadha, popular Hindi, Punjabi and English  film director, producer on issues of Indian culture and Women’s  life in England. Born in Nairobi, Kenya she  has shifted  to England  and made many  successful films,  like Bend It Like Beckham, Pride And Prejudice, Angus Thongs…, The Mistress of Spices, The Viceroy’s House, Bhaji on the Beach, Blinded by The Light etyc. She has been honored with OBE title by the British Govt. in 2006.

1974 – Hrithik Roshan,  Bollywood’s dance, action and  romantic hero, son of veteran Rakesh Roshan,  who debuted with a blockbuster film  Kaho Na Pyar Hai and became an instant heart throb of Indian youth. He went on to  lead in  Krish series, Dhoom and War series,  Koi Mil Gaya, Tiger, Fighter, Vikram Vedha, Super 30 etc. His worth is believed to be around Rs. 3,100 crores.  (video credit- Zee Media Co. and  pic -Babban Shaffi, Wikipedia).

RIP…. 1693 – Job Charnock,  English merchant  who landed on Nimtala Ghat in  Bengal on  August 24, 1690  and is believed to be the  founder of Calcutta (or related to one, as it is said another Charnock land there in 1655-56 and was the founder of  this City). He became East India company Chief Agent and settled, later died in the same city (pic credit- .

Titbits…. 1810 – French church annuls marriage of Napoleon I and Josephine.  Nepoleon was 6 years younger to his lady  paramour (pic credit-filtrcafe.com).

Another issue that lowers agricultural productivity is that “substantial chunks of scarce landremain untilled because of landowners’ reluctance to lease out land for fear of losing its ownership.” .                                           Fights for control of Land pieces  on the Earth  has been going on from times im-memorial and is likely to contune  on the Moon’s surface too (sic).
