First Suspected HMPV Case in India Reported in Bengaluru
8-Month-Old Infant in Bengaluru Tests Positive for Human Metapneumovirus; Health Officials Cautiously Monitor Situation….
Bengaluru : An eight-month-old infant in Bengaluru has become the first suspected case of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in India, as reported by HT News Desk. The child, admitted to a private hospital, was tested for the virus, but state health authorities have not yet independently confirmed the results. While HMPV is known to primarily affect children and is responsible for about 0.7% of flu cases globally, Karnataka officials lack detailed information about the specific strain involved.
Despite concerns about HMPV spreading in China, the Directorate General of Health Services has assured that there is “nothing to be alarmed about.” Health experts note that HMPV causes flu-like symptoms, particularly in vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
