Punjab Govt Continues Efforts to Persuade Farmer Leader Dallewal to Seek Medical Help
Despite ongoing talks, Jagjit Singh Dallewal refuses to end hunger strike after 37 days….
Chandigarh : The Punjab government is intensifying efforts to convince farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal to seek medical assistance, as his indefinite hunger strike enters its 37th day. A government team led by former Additional DGP Jaskaran Singh has held multiple discussions with Dallewal in recent days, urging him to take medical help, but the leader has so far refused.
Dallewal, who is protesting at the Khanauri border in Sangrur, has been on a hunger strike for over a month. The state government had been given a deadline by the Supreme Court, which allowed until December 31 for Dallewal to be shifted to a hospital. The Court also granted the Punjab government the option to seek logistical support from the Centre if needed.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court reviewed the government’s plea for an additional three-day extension to comply with the order, with the matter scheduled for further hearing on January 2.
