Manipur : In a major breakthrough, eight militants associated with the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) were arrested in Manipur’s Kakching district, in connection with the recent killings of two migrant labourers from Bihar.
Following the tragic deaths of Sunalal Kumar (18) and Dasharat Kumar (17), police launched search operations across the region on December 14. The first arrest was made from the Kakching Lamkhai area, and based on information provided by the detained militant, a police team conducted a raid at a camp in Kakching Mamang Ching Laipham Loknung area, where they arrested seven more militants.
During the operation, arms, ammunition, and 10 mobile phones were seized. The KCP (PWG) faction, involved in extortion and other criminal activities in the Imphal Valley, has been under scrutiny for similar attacks.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the killings, describing the act as a direct assault on societal values. He extended his deepest condolences to the grieving families and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for them. The case may be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further investigation, if necessary.
