Court Denies Bail to Gangster Sukhpreet Singh Budha in Parmish Verma Shooting Case
The court rejects the second bail plea of Budha, accused in the 2018 attempt on the life of singer Parmish Verma, citing lack of evidence and the severity of the charges.
Punjab: A local court in Mohali has denied bail to gangster Sukhpreet Singh, alias Budha, who has been arrested in connection with the 2018 attempted murder of Punjabi singer and music director Parmish Verma and his friend Kulwant Singh Chahal. This marks the second bail application filed by Singh in the case.
Background of the Attack:
The shooting incident occurred on April 14, 2018, when Parmish Verma and Kulwant Singh Chahal were heading to Homeland Apartments in Verma’s Toyota Fortuner. The duo was attacked while traveling, an incident that sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and public circles.
Defence’s Arguments:
In his plea, gangster Sukhpreet Singh’s counsel argued that the prosecution had failed to provide evidence linking Singh to the attack. They claimed that Singh had no connection to the co-accused and was not in India at the time of the incident. The defence also contended that Singh was in Armenia during the shooting and was only deported to India afterward.
Furthermore, Singh’s counsel stated that false recoveries had been planted on him and highlighted that Parmish Verma, the complainant in the case, had not appeared in court to testify. The defence requested bail on the grounds that no useful purpose would be served by keeping Singh in custody while awaiting the conclusion of the trial.
Court’s Decision:
Despite the defence’s arguments, the court rejected the bail plea, citing the serious nature of the charges and the ongoing investigation. The case continues to be under judicial scrutiny, and the trial is expected to unfold over time.
The denial of bail is a significant development in the case, as the Punjabi music industry and the public await further legal proceedings.
